Offering Themed Shabbats Throughout the Year
Looking around for a fun, engaging, inclusive way to spend Shabbat? Shema Koleinu believes that worship has many facets, and there are many different ways to pray, and observe our beautiful Jewish rituals. Whether you attend a Family Shabbat, a private home service, or a community event like Passover seders, or High Holidays, Shema Koleinu has something to offer everyone!
We schedule 4 to 6 family Shabbats per year. Each year begins with a “Back to School” Shabbat — where we bless our students — young and old, pray for wisdom and integrity for them in the coming year, and wish everyone a happy healthy school year.
Throughout the year, we like to incorporate themes into our worship services. For instance, last year, Cantor Debbi went to Africa, and came back and held a “Unity in the Community” Shabbat, where we invited friends of different ethnic and religious backgrounds to worship together.
We end the year with a traveler’s blessing – for anyone attending summer camp or traveling— wishing them well in their journeys, and praying that we all can gather together again in the fall to share our wonderful experiences.
This year, we will make our own tallitot for worship, and perhaps make a community Torah. We want to be as creative as our congregants want us to be — so if you have an idea for a theme style Shabbat, or holiday service — please let us know! We want to know what you want to experience in worship, so we can meet your needs.
